Zine

Our  final project for this class is a "How To" zine.  I have chosen "How to Bake an Apple Pie" because it is something I am familiar with and enjoy doing. I looked at several cookbooks...old and new...to gain a starting point for my zine. We are also responsible for choosing a binding method to use. I have decided that I will make my "how to" zine spiral bound to resemble an actual cookbook.

Infographics Project

The infographics project requires us to gather information about our daily life and then present it in a poster through the use of graphs/images/text etc.
Below are some research images I have found that might inspire how I display the information on my poster.

"Perfection is Boring"

This is my completed version of the public service awareness poster. I chose to use body image as my topic. Other than the words "Perfection is boring" I drew all the lettering and then altered the colors after I scanned them into Photoshop. I also faded a size chart into the background. Thank you Jessica Broils for being the face of my poster. And thanks Amelia Neuroth for allowing me to use the photograph!

Public Service Awareness Poster

For our third project, we are to design a poster for a public service awareness. The poster is supposed to include a variety of media such as scanned images from books/magazines, original photographs, typography, hand-drawn images, etc. I am considering using body image as my subject. Below are a few posters I found based on this topic:

Letter Assignment

The assignment for the second project is to represent yourself by creating the letters of your name from a variety of objects. We are required to choose a font and form our letters as closely as possible to it. I chose to use Avenir 95 Black for my letters because it is clean and simple. These are my ideas so far:

S - use scarves to form letter
T - carve letter into the side of a large candle...light candle for photograph
E - pour out coffee grounds to form letter...include coffee mug and spoon in photograph
P - cut letter into top crust before baking pie
H - form letter using armature wire
A - carve letter into mango
N - lay out several playing cards to form letter
I - use whipped cream to form the stem of letter and a cherry as the dot
E - write letter in sand at the edge of water

B - use stencil to spray paint letter in snow
R - use crayon shavings to form letter...include full size crayons in photograph
I - draw letter using resist then splatter paint onto it
S - create shadow...kind of like the batman symbol
T - poke several thumbtacks into bulletin board
O - use thread to stitch letter onto cloth
W - write letter on bottom corner of chalkboard using white chalk...take photograph at an angle
